You'll see other photos of a gondola in Venice like this one from other photographers. This gondola was on the canal which runs next to Doge's Palace on the left and Doge's Prison on the right; both are on San Marco Square (main tourist trap... err... I mean area of Venice). In front of Doge's Palace is the most beautiful but also most touristy area for gondolas. Still, postcard material stuff.
